Torrente Triumphs at Spanish Box Office
Spain's fascist Falstaff is back.
Spanish Cinema has been triumphing at Spain's own box office. Ocbo Apellidos Vascos, obtained 2.7 million euros in its opening weekend last March. This was superseded by El niño, with 2.85 million on the weekend it opened at the end of August.
But these figures have been beaten by Santiago Segura's Torrente 5: Operación Eurovegas, which made 3.6 million on the first weekend of October. This is the fifth in the series featuring the cowardly, alcoholic, opportunistic, lascivious, racist sometime policeman, José Luis Torrente. This Spanish Fascist Falstaff seems to have an enduring appeal.
